Took a week vacation in Utah. Salt Lake, Park City, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.
Relaxation at Great Salt Lake, Luge and mountain biking in Park City, Hiking in Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon, Doing the narrows in Zion National Park. Talk about monumental public art!
Some new work is taking my images and translating them to a line drawing. These files will be CNC routed into large panels and painted. A larger version of my laser etch wood blocks.
The nationally juried show and sale will take place this weekend. This will be my fourth year attending and I am excited with my new work. Still putting the finishing touches on a Stainless Steel piece titled A Family Tree, a joint project with my wife who originally did this piece in wood (maple and walnut), I always thought this would be perfect for a large public art piece in Stainless Steel and Core ten, weathering steel, so I decides to make this maquette.
I led a workshop on ” How to photograph your artwork” for the Arkansas Arts Council GET Smart Series held at the Arkansas State Library .
We had a great turnout (there was even a waiting list). It was really rewarding to be able to share my 25 years of experience in photography, with people who share my current passion in art.
Working on a new series “City Block”; a variety of wood blocks, laser etched with architectural images that I have taken from around the world. They will be capped with copper, bronze, brass, or nickel.
Hoss Haley came to UALR Applied Design and held a workshop showing how he made his steel erratic forms.
This is my version from the weekend. It was made from 1/8″ sheet steel that was cut, hammer formed, and then oxy/acet welded. A “bronzed” patina was added to finish the piece.
I had just 4 -1/2 days to design, order materials, and build this shoe for a Christmas parade. It was built on location at the Munro American Shoe factory in Clarksville, AR
It is 9′ long and 7′ tall and skinned in real leather.
